Terms of Service — candidates

Last updated: 2026-05-27. Version 2026-05-27.v1.

These terms apply when you take a Crackd screening session at the invitation of a hiring team. By starting a session, you agree to the items below.

1. What a Crackd screen is

A Crackd screen is a series of technical exercises (code review, decision communication, code tracing, live debugging) that a hiring team has configured to evaluate candidates. You're taking it as part of an interview process with that team.

2. What you do

  • Read the screen, answer the prompts, write the code/comments/responses.
  • AI tools are permitted unless the hiring team has disabled them on a specific module. The interface tells you which.
  • You can pause once for up to 15 minutes. The session is logged from start to submit.
  • One submit per session. Once submitted, you cannot edit.

3. What we record

We log:

  • Every input you make inside the screen (comments, answers, code edits).
  • Every AI chat prompt and response, plus token counts.
  • Timing: when you start, when you submit, time on each module.
  • An anonymous browser fingerprint (used only to detect session sharing).
  • Optional: a webcam check-in if the hiring team enabled it AND you consented.

We do not log:

  • Keystrokes outside our editors.
  • Your clipboard contents.
  • Activity on other tabs / windows / applications.
  • Any system-level information beyond what your browser exposes.

4. Who sees your data

  • The hiring team that invited you.
  • Crackd staff for support / abuse investigation.
  • Sub-processors we use: our database (Neon), our LLM provider (Anthropic by default, optionally OpenAI / Google), our session analytics (PostHog), and our payment processor (Stripe, only if the screen has a candidate stipend attached).

We do not sell your data. We do not use your screen content to train AI models.

5. Retention

Your session data is retained for 90 days after submission. After that we anonymise the inputs (drop identifying fields) and may retain the aggregated grading signal for fixture-calibration purposes. You can request earlier deletion at any time — see Section 7.

6. Stipends

If the hiring team enabled a stipend, it's paid on session completion regardless of outcome. Payout method varies by region — you'll get an email at the address we sent the invite to.

7. Your rights

You can:

  • Request a copy of every byte of data we hold tied to your email.
  • Request deletion of all data tied to your email (this includes any cached AI training data we'd otherwise retain).
  • Withdraw consent at any point during a session — submit cancels.

Email privacy@iscracked.com to exercise these rights. We respond within 14 days.

8. AI-specific terms

  • The AI assistant in some modules may be configured to give intentionally misleading answers. When that mode is on, you'll see a banner the first time you open chat. Your ability to discriminate between good and bad AI output is part of the grading.
  • All AI usage feeds into your AI-fluency score. Zero usage is not penalised; heavy usage without verification is.
  • The AI's outputs are not authoritative. The hiring team grades your final code/answers, not the AI's.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version you agreed to is stored with your session. If we materially change the terms during an active screen, we'll either honour the version you agreed to or ask for fresh consent.

10. Contact
